VCN refers to a copular that expresses the negation of a fact.

Characteristics

• The most common VCN is ‘아니다’. Unlike VCP such as ‘이다’, which functions similarly to a postposition, ‘아니다’ functions similarly to an adjective.
• Sentences with ‘아니다’ require a complement, marked by the postposition ‘이/가’.
• Examples:
  • 나는 학생이 아니다. (I am not a student.)
  • 김치는 한국 음식이 아닌가? (Isn’t kimchi a Korean dish?)
